Session planning / reference

Plan the session before the first bet.

A session plan is a short agreement with yourself about when play starts, what amount is available and when you will stop. Write it down while the decision is easy to make—not after the scoreboard or odds have changed.

01 / Set the edges

Three decisions to make in advance

Keep the plan specific enough to follow. A broad intention such as “I will be careful” is harder to use than a time, amount and clear stopping rule.

  • Choose a time window. Pick a start time and an end time. Include time for checking the event, placing any intended bets and closing the session.
  • Choose an entertainment amount. Use only money that is genuinely available after essentials, bills, debt payments and savings priorities. A zero amount is a valid plan.
  • Choose the stop point. Decide what ends the session: the scheduled end time, the planned amount being used, or both. Do not make the stop point depend on winning back money.

02 / Quick reference

Boundary checklist

Review these prompts before opening a sportsbook or betting app. If an answer is unclear, delay the session until it is clear.

Time
What time will play finish?
What reminder or practical action will mark the end?
What will you do next—leave the app, watch the event, or move on to another activity?
Money
What is the maximum amount for this session?
Is that amount separate from rent, food, transport, bills, debt payments and savings?
Will you avoid adding funds or borrowing if the planned amount is used?
Scope
Which event or events are included?
Will you avoid adding new markets simply because the original plan has ended?
What will you do if the reason for playing changes from entertainment to urgency or frustration?
03 / Follow the plan

Make stopping a normal part of the session

Tracking is information, not a prompt to continue. Check the clock and the amount used at the point you planned to check them. If either boundary is reached, close the session without changing the rule in response to the result.

  • If you are ahead: the planned end time still applies. A positive result does not require extending play.
  • If you are behind: do not add money or extend the session to recover the difference. Record what happened and leave the result where it is.
  • If the plan no longer feels comfortable: stop early. You do not need to justify a pause by reaching a particular result.
  • Afterward: note the planned amount, the amount used, the start and end times, and anything that made the boundary difficult to follow.

A note for the next session

Use the record to adjust, not to chase.

Review the plan when you are away from play. You might shorten the time window, lower the amount, choose fewer events or decide not to plan another session. Stakewise is an informational tracking tool; it does not predict outcomes, make betting safer, or replace your own judgment.
